Mission and master plan

In 1993, North Fork residents voted to create the North Fork Pool, Park and Recreation District. Thanks to generous support from our community, Great Outdoors Colorado, and other funders, the North Fork Swimming Pool became a reality in 1995.

There are numerous recreation districts in Colorado, each providing unique recreational opportunities to their community. Each has specified boundaries and is managed and operated in accordance with Colorado State statutes.

Our boundaries include an area of approximately 400 square miles and 8800 residents. The towns of Crawford, Hotchkiss, Paonia and unincorporated areas surrounding them lie within our boundaries. In addition to building, managing, and maintaining the North Fork Pool and Crossroads Park, we maintain the Paonia Skate Park at Paonia Town Park, and the Apple Valley Tennis/Pickleball Courts. In 2000, the Kid's Kingdom Playground at Crossroads Park, located next to the swimming pool, was built in partnership with the North Fork Community Montessori School. In 2018, the aging playground was replaced with the pumptrack, climbing boulder and WeatherPort picnic structure.

Mission
The Mission of the North Fork Pool, Park and Recreation District is to provide our community with a variety of activities and programs that enhance healthy lifestyles, build strong families and provide a sense of community pride.

Master Plan
In February, 2011, the North Fork Pool, Park and Recreation District completed a Master Plan for the District. The purpose was to develop a plan that will guide the future direction of the District over the next 10 years.

Since 2011, in collaboration with generous funders, local donors and inspired partnering organizations, the NFPPRD has expanded recreational opportunities throughout the District.
