Water Aerobics or Zumba®

Join Glenda for Water Aerobics  this summer - June 3 - August 22

Glenda Young has been teaching water aerobics at the North Fork Recreational Pool for 17 years. Water aerobics offers a fun and effective way to improve fitness, relieve stress, and enhance overall well-being, all while enjoying the therapeutic properties of water.

“Being in water aerobics is so healthy,” Young said. “I’ve had several doctors and physical therapists refer patients to me due to its low impact. I see the healing. We’ve had huge community support and it’s a wonderful asset for this community. I love to hear the success stories.”

  • Low Impact Exercise: Water provides buoyancy, which reduces the impact on joints, making water aerobics an excellent option for individuals with arthritis, joint pain, or those recovering from injury.
  • Cardiovascular Health: Water aerobics can improve cardiovascular endurance and strengthen the heart muscle through continuous movement and resistance provided by the water.
  • Muscle Strength and Endurance: Resistance from the water helps build muscle strength and endurance. Water aerobics exercises engage multiple muscle groups, including the core, arms, legs, and back, leading to overall body toning.

  •  Improved Flexibility: Performing exercises in water allows for a wider range of motion, promoting flexibility and reducing the risk of muscle stiffness and injury.
  • Calorie Burning and Weight Management: Water aerobics offers an effective way to burn calories and support weight management goals. The resistance of the water increases calorie expenditure compared to similar exercises performed on land.
  • Social Interaction: Water aerobics classes are often conducted in group settings, providing opportunities for social interaction and support, which can contribute to mental and emotional well-being.
  • Suitable for All Fitness Levels: Water aerobics can be adapted to accommodate individuals of all fitness levels, from beginners to advanced participants, making it an inclusive and accessible form of exercise for diverse populations.
